Chester continued their recent run of solid form in the non-league top flight during the week with a 1-0 win away at North Ferriby United which extended their unbeaten run to six matches, and they now return to their Lookers Vauxhall Stadium for the visit of Torquay United on Saturday.
During this six-match unbeaten run, Chester have registered wins against Guiseley, Braintree Town, Dover Athletic and the aforementioned North Ferriby United while their home record shows a reasonably strong return so far of 5-0-2 17/5.
The hosts have already secured wins over top half opposition such as third placed Dagenham & Redbridge in a 3-0 win in their opening game at home of the new season along with a 5-0 win over 8th placed Dover Athletic. Goals have been flowing in this neck of the woods so far, and Saturday may be no exception!
Visitors Torquay United have long since lost the tag of pre-season promotion candidates from the National League as The Gulls have really struggled to come to terms with this division since their relegation from the Football League a few seasons ago.
Having said that, Torquay secured a much-needed three points during the week with a 1-0 home win over this season’s promotion candidates Dagenham & Redbridge at Plainmoor, but their success has been sporadic to say the least so far in this new season.
An away record of 1-1-5 4/11 tells its own story as Torquay have managed just the one win on their travels so far this season which was a 3-1 win at third from bottom club Braintree Town, but they’ll be facing an in-form Chester unit here on Saturday and I’m expecting another defeat for Torquay.
