CHESTERFIELD v CRAWLEY – Pick: 1 & both teams to score – 27 January 2015

Spireites to edge Red Devils at the Proact

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Tuesday 27th January 2015 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Chesterfield could jump into fifth spot in League One if they take all three points tonight in their clash against bottom club Crawley Town, and they’ll be keen to bounce back after back-to-back defeats.

Chesterfield recently lost away at Swindon Town 3-1 in the league prior to the weekend’s FA Cup loss away at Championship club Derby County, but they know they have a great opportunity to claim a place among the play-off pack tonight against struggling Crawley.

Chesterfield have been in improved form at their Proact Stadium recently having lost just once in their last five with wins over Barnsley, Peterborough United and Port Vale along with a draw against Yeovil town, while their defeat was to Bradford City. The Spireites’ home record stands at  6-3-3  19/14 but despite this reasonable record, Chesterfield have kept just two clean sheets on home turf so far this season.

Onto the visitors Crawley Town, and they currently sit bottom of League One having lost away at Fleetwood Town on Saturday which handed them their fifth league defeat in their last seven matches.

Recent defeats against Bristol City, Port Vale, Leyton Orient, Rochdale and Fleetwood have resulted in the Sussex outfit propping up the division, but a win tonight would lift them off the bottom and close the gap on Crewe Alexandra and the safety position of 20th place.

Crawley’s away record stands at  1-4-8  10/24 and they’ve kept just two clean sheets on their travels while they’ve scored in six of their last eight on the road. Former MK Dons striker Izale Mcleod leads the goalscoring and he’s supported by midfielders Elliott and Edwards who ca also score.

Chesterfield have been in good form at home recently, but they’re also susceptible at the back so I’ll back the hosts for the win and both sides to hit the back of the net – could be a 2-1 win for Chesterfield.
