Chesterfield to dismiss Exiles in promotion push

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 5th April 2014 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

Third placed Chesterfield take on Newport County at the Proact Stadium on Saturday afternoon with the hosts looking to extend their unbeaten home run to fifteen matches and a vital three points in their quest for automatic promotion.

Chesterfield are currently five points clear of fourth placed Fleetwood Town with just six matches left of the season which makes The Spireites’ remaining home matches even more important, starting with this afternoon’s encounter with Newport County. The hosts look to be in good shape to take the points too having won five of their last seven on home turf with an overall record of  11-7-2  32/13, which includes ten clean sheets.

The Spireites also possess some key attacking players such as leading goalscorer Roberts (10 goals, 10 assists), Richards (9 goals), Doyle (8 goals) and O’Shea (7 goals, 3 assists).

Newport County make the difficult trip up to Derbyshire on the back of some disappointing results recently including defeats at home to Dagenham and Portsmouth (both at home) while winning just once in their last eleven matches and that was at bottom club Torquay United in a 1-0 win.

Until that win at Torquay United week before last, Newport had gone seven away matches without a win and had gained just two points from a possible 21 thanks to draws at Accrington Stanley and Southend United, but their overall record on the road still leaves a lot to be desired which stands at  4-8-8  16/28 along with failing to score on no fewer than eight occasions.

The firepower of Chesterfield who also have home advantage along with that crucial factor of promotion incentive should be too much for a Newport County outfit who have struggled to score on a consistent basis on their travels all season. This could be a 2-1 win for Chesterfield.
