Group B concludes the group stage matches this evening and my first pick features Chile taking on Australia at the Otkrytiye Arena in Moscow, with Chile needing to just avoid defeat to progress to the knockout phase of the tournament.
Chile are level on points with Germany at the top of the group following an opening match 2-0 win over Cameroon, and then a valuable point against Germany in a 1-1 draw to give them four points from their first two group matches.
Chile are in pretty solid form right now as they’ve suffered just two defeats from their last 12 matches in all competitions, and this run includes wins over Uruguay and more recently, Cameroon along with draws against Russia and Germany.
Australia know they must register a win here this evening if they’re to stand any chance of making it out of Group B and into the next phase, following their opening match 3-2 defeat to Germany, and they then could only muster a point against Cameroon in a 1-1 draw.
Australia have had a pretty successful World Cup qualifying campaign in the Asia section to date, and although they were on the end of a 4-0 thrashing to Brazil a couple of weeks ago, Ange Postecoglou’s side still remain a hard team to beat.
Australia are more known for their hard-working approach and uncompromising tackling rather than silky ball skills, and their best player, Tim Cahill, is now approaching the twilight of his career and now makes cameo appearances off the bench.
Chile possess the better quality, particularly in defence, and for this reason, I’m backing the attractively priced unders here.
