Club Brugge will be looking forward to returning to their Jan Breydelstadion ground on Sunday afternoon when they entertain Standard Liege with the home side looking to build upon their recent home win over Lokeren.
Club Brugge secured all three points with a 1-0 win over Lokeren, and this followed an earlier 2-0 win away at Mechelen, but they’ll no doubt be looking to their form on home turf to lift themselves up the Jupiler League into Championship round contention. In addition, Club Brugge have won 10 of their last 11 home matches, and last August of last season, they hammered today’s opponents 7-1 in their last encounter.
Club Brugge finished with an impressive home record of 14-0-1 42/9 which landed them the Jupiler League title at the end of last season, finishing four points ahead of second placed Gent.
Visitors Standard Liege finished in 7th place last season which was an okay season, but they’ll be looking to improve upon their away record this time around as they finished up with stats of 4-3-8 19/35.
And although Standard Liege remain unbeaten on home turf so far this season to date, they have failed to win either of their away matches so far as they’ve drawn 2-2 at relegation candidates Westerlo along with suffering a 1-0 defeat at Zulte-Waregem so their confidence on their travels is perhaps fragile to say the least.
Standard have lost three of their last four away from home, and their 7-1 defeat at Club Brugge may return to haunt them here this afternoon.
