Following back-to-back away defeats at Orlando City and Sporting Kansas respectively (both by 2-0 margins), bottom of the Western Conference, Colorado Rapids, return back to more familiar surroundings as they look to reduce the points deficit on Houston Dynamo.
Colorado find themselves five points adrift of Houston Dynamo heading into this weekend’s round of matches as the whole of USA celebrates Independence Day, with the hosts looking to topple Vancouver Whitecaps here tonight to add to the occasion.
However, this may well be easier said than done as the Rapids have gone six matches without a win in the MLS which includes defeats to Portland Timbers as well as the aforementioned losses. Their home record stands at 1-4-3 6/10 with their one success coming against today’s opponents Vancouver back in May.
Onto Vancouver then, and they go into tonight’s clash at Colorado having registered three MLS wins on the trot with victories over LA Galaxy and the New York franchises (Red Bulls and City) both by 2-1 margins.
What makes these three wins even more impressive is that they were all recorded away from home, and indeed they’ve won four of their last five overall which has contributed to their league leader status at the top of the Western Conference.
Vancouver’s overall away record reads 6-1-3 9/6 which includes four wins from their six matches away from home against bottom half opposition.
Since their last encounter in May, these two sides have trended in totally opposite directions, so I’ll back the visitors to at least avoid defeat here, and they could even nick this one perhaps 1-0.
