Columbus Crew recorded a third win in four MLS matches last Sunday when they overcame Chicago Fire in a 3-1 home win which has kept them in second place in the Eastern Conference five points behind division leaders DC United.
Columbus have recently racked up wins over New York Red Bulls along with home and away wins over struggling Chicago Fire which has kept their bid for a final series appearance on track, and they’ll be looking for more of the same here tonight when they take on Toronto at their Columbus Crew Stadium.
On home turf, the Crew possess a good record of 7-2-2 24/13 and they’ve been scoring goals on a regular basis on home turf which has been a major contributing factor to their success so far. Indeed, Columbus Crew are the highest goalscorer at home in the Conference with striker Kamara (14 goals) being the primary source.
Visitors Toronto backed up their point away at New York City with a 2-1 home win over Philadelphia Union last weekend as they’ve continued their improvements on their home form. Their form on home soil has yielded recent wins over San Jose, Montreal Impact and Philadelphia, while they’ve lost just once in their last six away trips.
Toronto’s overall away record stands at an indifferent 4-2-5 18/21 as they’ve continued to leak goals on the road. In fact, only New England (25) and Philadelphia Union (24) have conceded more away goals than them in the Eastern Conference to date.
With this last statistic in mind, I’ll therefore back the hosts to take the points here in what could perhaps be a 2-1 win for Columbus Crew.
