It’s a top of the table clash in the Eastern Conference up next with fourth placed Columbus Crew taking on Conference leaders Toronto at their MAPFRE Stadium with the home side looking for all three points to move up into the automatic Finals Series spots.
Columbus suffered their first defeat on home soil recently when they went down to a 3-2 loss to third placed New York City, but The Crew soon bounced back with a 2-0 home win over New England to improve their overall home record to 4-1-1 12/7.
Perhaps more importantly though, in the context of this fixture, Columbus scored a 2-1 win over tonight’s opponents Toronto in mid-April, as well as being unbeaten in the last three encounters against Toronto. Striker Kamara (6 goals) is the main threat up front for the hosts.
Visitors Toronto sit top of the Eastern Conference by a single point over second placed Orlando City and a three point margin over today’s hosts, Columbus Crew, and Toronto possess their current league position mainly thanks to four straight wins recently.
These four wins were recorded against Chicago Fire, Houston Dynamo, Orlando City and Seattle Sounders, but it should be noted that three of these four were registered at their BMO Field. Away from home, Toronto hold a 2-2-1 6/4 record, but the fact that they’ve already lost at Columbus doesn’t guarantee them anything here.
Columbus are expected to name an unchanged side ahead of this clash, and with home advantage and their solid record against tonight’s opponents toronto in previous encounters, I’ll back them to at least avoid defeat here.
