Top of the Brazilian Serie A, Corinthians, are in red-hot form ahead of tonight’s clash with Fluminense in Sao Paulo with the hosts aiming for a fifth straight win which could extend their lead at the top of the division.
Corinthians currently hold a useful four-point lead at the summit of the Brazilian top flight ahead of second placed Atletico Mineiro, but they’ll be keen to maintain their cushion over their nearest competitors as the race for the title hots up.
Corinthians’ home record stands at 9-0-1 20/7 and along with being unbeaten in their last 13 matches overall, they’ve also chalked up eight straight wins on home turf with leading goalscorer and striker Vagner Love (6 goals) being the main danger man up front.
Visitors Fluminense currently sit in 7th place ahead of their trip to the league leaders, but recent form suggests that they could well have their backs to the wall for much of this match if their past few results are anything to go by.
Fluminense have lost six of their last eight Serie A matches overall, and it should be taken into consideration that both of these wins were registered at the Maracana against Gremio and Figueirense respectively.
Away from home has been a difficult assignment for the visitors as well as they’ve slumped to four straight defeats at Chapecoense, Avai, Internacional and Joinville while their overall away record stands at a below-par 3-1-6 11/16.
With home advantage behind them as well as winning momentum, I’ll back the hosts Corinthians to rack up another three points here in perhaps a 1-0 win.
