Coventry City have recently suffered back-to-back defeats to Burton Albion and Southend United in League One which has cost them valuable ground in their bid for automatic promotion as they now six and nine points adrift of Gillingham and Burton Albion respectively.
But the Sky Blues entertain bottom half outfit Scunthorpe United at their City of Coventry Stadium this afternoon as they look to bounce back with a much-needed three points in order to consolidate their play-off position at least.
Coventry hold a solid-looking home record of 8-5-1 27/16 with their one defeat being a 1-0 loss to Burton Albion which is no disgrace, but with the likes of striker Armstrong up front and goalscoring midfielder Murphy in their attacking ranks, Coventry could take the spoils here.
Visitors Scunthorpe United currently occupy 16th place in League One and they come into this afternoon’s encounter on the back of a useful 3-0 home win over Colchester United. Scunthorpe had previously suffered a 5-0 defeat though at the hands of Blackpool who are two league positions below them, so anything can happen where The Iron are concerned!
Scunthorpe’s away record stands at 4-2-7 18/24 but as you can see there’s a pretty good spread of goals scored versus goals conceded and sure enough, we see that 11 of their 13 away matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals.
Given Coventry’s recent back-to-back defeats and Scunthorpe’s inconsistency away from home, it’s too difficult to find a straight winner here, but I’ll take over 2.5 goals every day of the week in this one!
