CRAWLEY v GILLINGHAM – Pick: 2 AH0 – 28 March 2015

Hard-to-beat Gills may cause Red Devils problems

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 28th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Crawley Town record their third successive League One win last Saturday when they beat fellow strugglers Leyton Orient in a 1-0 home win which has lifted Crawley Town away from the bottom four for the time being.

Earlier wins against Colchester United and Port Vale (both 3-2 wins away from home) have helped the Red Devils in their bid to escape the drop down into League Two, but another crucial clash with Gillingham beckons at their checkatrade.com Stadium on Saturday as they go in search of a fourth league win on the trot.

Crawley’s home record stands at  7-6-6  24/29 and there have been mixed results in recent weeks as they’ve scored wins over Barnsley 5-1 and Leyton Orient but have also experienced defeats to Doncaster Rovers 0-5 and Bristol City as well as a creditable 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

Visitors Gillingham have picked up their game in the last couple of months following the appointment of former Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh who replaced Peter Taylor in early February.

Edinburgh has earned his stripes in League One on the back of guiding Newport County back into the football league from the Conference premier at the end of last season, and since his appointment, The Gills have lost just twice in their last ten matches.

Just like Newport, Edinburgh has made his Gillingham outfit hard to beat as they’ve drawn three of their last four with stalemates against Doncaster Rovers, Bristol City and Colchester United (the former two results being against top half opposition). Away from home, Gillingham’s overall record stands at  4-6-9  20/29 but their recent 3-0 defeat at mid-table Chesterfield on Saturday was their first defeat in five matches on the road.

Both teams then have been in good form recently, but I feel Gillingham will set themselves up not to lose this one – they might even steal the points in a 1-0 win but I’ll back the visitors with the round ball here in case it’s a draw.
