Cruzeiro registered another home win last weekend when they overcame Goias 1-0 at their Estadio Governor Magalhaes Pinto ground, and they have another chance of taking three points this afternoon when they host Avai in this evening’s clash.
Despite three defeats on the trot away from home, Cruzeiro’s home form has picked up in recent weeks as they’ve registered back-to-back wins over the likes of 8th placed Atletico PR and Goias while their overall home record now stands at 3-1-2 5/3.
Cruzeiro have now lost just once in their last five matches at home with a previous win over Flamengo and sharing a point with Ponte Preta in a 1-1 draw.
Visitors Avai ended their poor run of six matches without a win last weekend when they beat Chapecoense 2-1 at home which has placed them at just under the mid-table position in Serie A.
Avai had previously suffered defeats to Gremio, Vasco da Gama and Palmeiras while only gaining single points in draws with Figueirense, Sao Paulo and Sport Recife (two of these were at home). Avai’s overall away record stands at 2-1-3 4/7 and they’ve gone three away matches without a win, taking just one point from the last possible nine on offer on their travels.
Avai’s previous wins on the road were registered at lowly Vasco da Gama and Goias, but they face a much sterner test this afternoon when they make the trip to Cruzeiro this evening.
This may be a low scoring match, but I fancy Cruzeiro to take the points and cover the -1 asian line too in what could be a 2-0 win for the hosts. If Cruzeiro win by one goal we get our stake back.
