Crystal Palace go into tonight’s match with Newcastle United having lost just once in their last six league matches as this fixture takes on a new edge following Alan Pardew’s recent move from St James’ Park to Selhurst Park.
Pardew was a crowd favourite with the Palace fans and he’s duly delivered since arriving from his uneasy relationship with the Newcastle United fans in a tenure that was never completely accepted by the Geordie faithful. Nevertheless, Pardew has fired The Eagles into three wins from their last four with wins over Tottenham, Burnley and Leicester City along with a point against Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace’s league position has also improved and they currently sit in the relative safety of 13th place with a home record of 3-2-6 12/16 prior to tonight’s clash. However, one win from their last five at Selhurst Park suggests that they may not find the going easy against tonight’s opponents Newcastle United.
Onto Newcastle then, and their inconsistent streak continues to shine through as a look at their recent league matches highlights; defeats to Chelsea and Southampton, a win over Hull City (away) and draws with Burnley and Stoke City.
The Magpies are therefore sitting in a rather predictable mid-table position, but they did manage all three points on their last away trip with a 3-0 win at Hull City after three very difficult away matches on the trot at Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea which they lost.
Newcastle’s away record stands at 3-3-6 12/19 but they are yet to lose away from home at bottom half opposition so far this season having beaten West Brom and Hull and drawn at Aston Villa and Burnley.
Pardew and Newcastle United will both be desperate not to lose this one for obvious reasons, so I reckon the draw looks a good value bet here i a match that could end perhaps 1-1.
