“Glad all over” is Crystal Palace’s fans favourite anthem before a game, and this has certainly been the case so far this season as The Eagles are currently enjoying their re-union with former player and now manager, Alan Pardew.
Crystal Palace currently reside in 7th place having registered a 1-0 win away at new-boys Watford on Sunday, and this will have been a huge relief for Pardew as his side had previously suffered back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Tottenham.
Despite those defeats though, his players have responded well and with a very winnable home match against West Brom in prospect, Palace could jump as high as third spot if other results go their way. Today’s match also represents a great opportunity to improve upon their home record which currently stands at 1-0-2 3/4.
Visitors West Brom seemingly had all three points in the bag on Monday night after they held a 2-0 lead over Everton at The Hawthorns, but Everton stormed back to take the points in an entertaining 3-2 win to condemn West Brom to a second defeat on the trot.
The Baggies had previously lost to Norwich City 3-0 away in the Capital One Cup, and they now face a tricky trip to London to try and upset Crystal Palace’s great start to the new campaign. West Brom would have headed to Selhurst Park in reasonably confident mood having recorded wins on the road at Stoke City and midlands rivals Aston Villa, but I fancy the manner of the loss to Everton may well have taken the wind out of their sails.
West Brom’s away record stands at a solid 2-1-0 2/0 but they will have their work cut out at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace have won their last four encounters against bottom half teams on home turf.
In short, I’ll back Crystal Palace for the points here in a low-scoring affair – The Eagles to nick it 1-0.
