Football – Spain – La Liga

Saturday 7th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1600hrs

Bottom half club Deportivo La Coruna head into this afternoon’s clash with Sevilla on the back of three games without a win in the Spanish top flight following defeats to Real Madrid and Celta Vigo along with a draw with Almeria last weekend.

Nevertheless, the hosts will be looking to end a run of three straight defeats against today’s opponents as Sevilla have won the last three encounters between the two sides in convincing fashion.

On home turf, Deportivo’s recent results have been a mixed bag with wins over mid-table Athletic Bilbao and bottom half club Eibar, but have lost to Barcelona and Celta Vigo who are both in the top half of the division, and a visit from Sevilla may well test them again here today. Deportivo’s overall home record stands at  4-3-6  14/22.

Onto the visitors Sevilla, and they’ve found the going tough in the last few weeks as they’ve registered just one La Liga win from their last five overall – a 3-0 home win over bottom club Cordoba.

As a result, Sevilla have dropped out of immediate reckoning for a possible Champions League qualifier spot as they’re now seven points adrift of fourth placed Valencia. However, they hold a useful five-point cushion over closest rivals Malaga for a Europa League berth, so they’ll be looking to at least avoid defeat at Deportivo this afternoon to strengthen their claim.

Sevilla’s overall away record stands at an indifferent  5-0-7  17/23 but it’s worth noting that four of their five wins on the road so far have been away at bottom half clubs (Cordoba, Elche, Rayo Vallecano and Almeria).

With this in mind, I reckon it’s worth backing the visitors in this clash also given their recent superiority over Deportivo, but you might want to have the draw on your side as Sevilla have lost their last four away matches on the trot. Could be a narrow 1-0 win for Sevilla.
