Derby County grabbed a third win in four matches last weekend when they scored a 3-1 win away at struggling MK Dons which lifted Derby up into 9th spot following a slow start to the new campaign.
Derby started the season with four draws on the trot with stalemates against Bolton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City and indeed The Rams started the season going without a win in their first five as they lost at home to Leeds United. However, Derby have since recovered and now seem to be heading in the right direction.
Derby’s home form will be crucial this term if they’re to challenge for automatic promotion, and having had a difficult start, they could reap the rewards this afternoon against an out-of-sorts Brentford outfit who seem to be in free-fall mode right now.
Onto Brentford then, and as mentioned, The Bees seem to have imploded in recent weeks having lost three of their last four with defeats to Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and this midweek’s loss at home to Birmingham City who had lost their previous two on the trot.
Confidence might just be shaken at the minute for the London club, and with a tough trip ahead of them here, along with just one away win from their last five on their travels, this could be a long afternoon for caretaker Lee Carsley and his squad.
Brentford’s away record stands at 1-1-2 6/7 and have kept just one clean sheet from their last 13 matches on the road. Quite simply, things haven’t been the same at Griffin Park since former manager Mark Warburton left the club and they’ll do well to avoid being sucked into a relegation dogfight later on in the season.
Derby’s winning momentum should see them through here today along with some potent attacking talent such as strikers Darren Bent, Chris Martin and Johnny Russell who could all notch here today. Derby to win this perhaps 2-1.
