With Middlesbrough and Burnley playing each other tonight in Tuesday night’s Championship fixtures, Derby County could move up into second place if they take all three points in their encounter with Bristol City at the iPro Stadium.
Derby head into tonight’s clash on the back of a four-match unbeaten run which has consisted of wins over Cardiff City and Hull City along with draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton, while their home form has really begun to shift through the gears as they’ve won five of their last six on home turf.
The Rams’ overall home record stands at 5-4-1 17/8 with their one defeat being a 2-1 loss to Leeds United back in August, but since then, Derby have been dominant with notable wins over Brentford, Wolves, QPR and Cardiff City.
Bristol City pulled away from the bottom three in the Championship on the weekend when they beat fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town 2-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium to hand The Robins their first league win since early November.
But recent defeats to Rotherham United and Blackburn Rovers suggest they could struggle again on the road away at one of the stronger teams in the division when you take Bristo City’s away record into consideration.
A record of 2-4-4 9/15 is not much to write home about, particularly with The Robins failing to score in four of their 10 away matches to date.
I’m confident that Derby can continue their solid form at the iPro Stadium tonight with another win as they push for an automatic promotion spot.
