In-form Derby County will be looking to do the ‘double’ over visitors Wigan Athletic on New Years Eve when the two teams meet at the iPro Stadium with Derby having secured a 1-0 win away at The Latics earlier this month.
Derby County are currently enjoying a strong run of run which has seen The Rams go unbeaten in their last nine matches in the Championship, a run which has lifted them up into 7th place and within striking distance of the play-off pack.
The Rams have also won their last five matches on the trot on home turf with wins registered against Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Norwich City, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City amidst an improving home record that now stands at 6-3-3 12/5, which also includes nine clean sheets to date.
Onto Wigan Athletic, and once again they’re having a very disappointing campaign to date as they’ve lurched from one crisis to the next and find themselves second from bottom and firmly placed in the relegation zone ahead of their difficult trip to Derby on Saturday.
The Latics are also in dismal form as they’ve slumped to five league defeats on the trot in the Championship having lost to Derby County (at home), Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Ipswich Town and perhaps most worrying of all, their Boxing Day defeat at Rotherham United.
Wigan’s away record also reflects the problems they’ve had this season as it stands at a below-par 2-3-7 12/17 and they’ve lost their last two on the trot on their travels. Wigan possess a 1-2-2 4/5 record away at top half opposition so far this season.
