Dens Park is the venue of my next pick as hosts Dundee look to find a way to claw back some ground on the teams above them at the foot of the Scottish top flight when they host fifth placed St Johnstone on Friday night.
Since recording back-to-back wins over arch rivals Dundee United and also a 4-2 win away at Partick Thistle, Dundee seem to have reverted to their old ways this season with a 1-0 loss at Aberdeen and a point in a 2-2 draw with Motherwell last time out.
Upon first glance, Dundee’s home record appears to be a poor one which stands at 2-2-8 14/20 but look a little deeper and you’ll find they’ve actually lost just twice in their last ten matches on home turf. In addition, they’ve been involved in 8 matches resulting in over 2.5 goals in their 12 home matches to date.
Visitors St Johnstone currently sit in fifth spot in the Scottish Premiership but this perhaps masks the fact that they’ve now gone six matches without a win as they look to kick-start their season once again at Dens Park this evening.
The Saints have lost four of these last six matches with defeats to Celtic, Motherwell, Celtic (again) and Aberdeen while their overall away record stands at a very much win-or-lose 5-0-6 22/22 with plenty of goals to speak of too.
In fact, 9 of their 11 away matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals so there’s a very good chance we’ll be seeing further goals tonight with both teams looking to break their current run of form, and with Dundee looking to make up ground.
