Eastleigh will go into today’s encounter with fellow play-off hopefuls Woking in buoyant mood after nicking all three points away at bottom club AFC Telford in a high-scoring game on the weekend.
Eastleigh registered only their third win on the road this season in a 4-3 win at AFC Telford but The Spitfires haven’t been known so far for their prowess on their travels but their home form has been excellent in this their first season in the non-league top flight.
Eastleigh hold a very solid record of 8-3-0 23/11 at the Silverlake Stadium and they’ve won their last four matches on the trot on home turf with wins over Halifax Town, Nuneaton Town, Chester and Dartford. They’ve also held the likes of Gateshead and Bristol Rovers to draws as well so they’ll be confident of getting something out of today’s match.
Visitors Woking lost their third match on the trot in the Conference Premier on Saturday when they lost 2-1 at home to Southport and The Cards are in danger of dropping out of the play-off positions as a result.
As it stands, Woking currently occupy fifth place but defeat to Eastleigh this afternoon would see the south coast side draw level on points with the visitors. Previous away defeats at Macclesfield Town and Forest Green Rovers have pegged Woking back as their away record has taken a dent in recent weeks.
An away record of 6-2-5 21/16 is perhaps a little misleading as The Cards have lost their last three on the road with another defeat at Grimsby Town. Woking have also struggled away at the top sides in the division as they’ve also slipped up at Torquay United and Bristol Rovers.
Given Eastleigh’s strong record at home, I’m confident in backing the hosts with the round ball here in case of a draw, but don’t be surprised if Eastleigh take the points here in what could be a 2-1 win.
