Eibar also return to more familiar surroundings on Monday night when they entertain relegation battlers Elche at their Estadio Municipal de Ipurúa, following three away matches in their last four in La Liga.
A draw at Cordoba was followed by defeats at Real Sociedad and Deportiva La Coruna, but they’ll be looking forward to returning home for tonight’s clash against lowly Elche. Not that their home form has been anything to write home about in recent weeks as they’ve yo-yo’d between wins and defeats.
Wins against Almeria and Getafe have been off-set by defeats to Real Madrid, Valencia and Atletico Madrid, but it should be noted that these three defeats were to teams currently situated in the top four of La liga! Eibar’s home record stands at 3-3-4 14/17 but they’ve lost just once to bottom half teams this season in six encounters.
Visitors Elche have recently turned things around as they’ve registered three wins from their last five in the Spanish top flight with wins over Athletic Bilbao, Levante and Rayo Vallecano – the latter two being on home turf by the way.
Away from home, Elche have been far more vulnerable as one win from their last eight road trips testifies, which was the win at Athletic Bilbao, but defeats at Real Madrid, Valencia, Real Sociedad, Deportivo La Coruna and even bottom club Granada suggest they will struggle at Eibar tonight.
Their away record stands at 2-2-6 9/21 and along with keeping just one clean sheet on their travels, they’ve failed to score on five occasions to date on the road.
Eibar will be keen to get back to winning ways and they have a great opportunity to do so against a struggling Elche outfit. Take the hosts and give the quarter ball just in case, but it could be a 1-0 win for the hosts.
