Football – Germany – DFB Pokal Betting Tips

A similar story has unfolded on the German domestic scene as Borussia Dortmund seem to have fallen slightly in the Bundesliga pecking order, with upstarts, RB Leipzig, pipping them into second place behind the usual suspects, Bayern Munich, who secured yet another Bundesliga title.

Looking at Eintracht Frankfurt first though, and they finished around the mid-table position in the German top flight which was pretty much expected and by the form book, however, a DFB Pokal cup final place wasn’t written in the season script, and they take their place in the final with a tilt at a Europa League place up for grabs.

Eintracht’s passage to the final wasn’t always plain sailing though as they had to go to penalties in the first round away at Magdeburg after the game was 1-1 at the end of extra-time, and they had to do it all over again via a penalty shoot-out in the second round against Ingolstadt. A third round 2-1 win away at Hannover was followed by a quarter-final 1-0 home win over Arminia Bielefeld, but they again had to endure a third penalty shoot-out in the semi-final win over Borussia Moenchengladbach!

Borussia Dortmund finished in third place in the Bundesliga which sealed automatic entry into the Champions League, but nevertheless, they’ll be keen to take home a trophy after a long, hard season in the German top flight, particularly after their famous cup win over Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.

Dortmund’s route to the DFB Pokal was slightly easier than Frankfurt’s as they secured a 3-0 win away at Eintracht Trier in the first round. However, they too had to win penalty shoot-outs over Union Berlin and Hertha Berlin in the second and third rounds respectively, before a quarter-final 3-0 win at Sportfreunde Lotte.

Dortmund then qualified for the final thanks to a resounding 3-2 win away at Bayern Munich, and with increasing transfer speculation surrounding their star striker, Patrick Aubameyang (31 goals), this could be the Dortmund’s hit-man’s swan-song.
