There may have been a change of manager at Goodison Park, but Everton have started their new Premier League campaign in positive fashion as they sit in third position in the English top flight after being unbeaten in their first four matches of the season.
On Saturday afternoon they entertain Middlesbrough at home and having beaten Sunderland 3-0 at the Stadium of Light on Monday night together with previous wins over West Brom and Stoke City, The Toffees head into this encounter on a three-match winning streak.
In their opening match of the season, Everton earned a good point against Tottenham in a 1-1 draw, and if striker Lukaku can find the back of the net on a consistent basis, then Everton could be in the frame for a european spot this season.
Visitors Middlesbrough returned to the top flight after a seven year hiatus following promotion from the Championship at the end of last season, and they’ve started in reasonable form having beaten their north-east rivals Sunderland away from home which would have delighted the Boro fans.
However, as with any team promoted up to the English top flight, Middlesbrough will need to make their home games count this term, and a recent 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at the Riverside won’t have done their confidence any favours as they prepare for the tricky trip to Everton this Saturday.
A win at Sunderland and a point at West Brom means that Boro have taken four points from the first possible six on offer on their travels which is a great start for the newcomers, but the real test begins this afternoon against an in-form Everton outfit.
