Despite having endured a four-match sequence without a win in the Premier League, today’s hosts Everton still sit in 6th place and can reduce the four-point gap below Chelsea to just one point if they take all three points against struggling West Ham today.
Recent defeats to Bournemouth and Burnley, albeit away from home, were games that Everton would have expected to at least pick up a point, but draws with Crystal Palace and Manchester City have helped retain their top six position.
The point at Manchester City will have boosted The Toffees no doubt, and with a solid home record of 2-2-0 6/3 behind them at Goodison Park, they’ll be hopeful of gaining a much needed win here today. Leading goalscorer Lukaku (6 goals) is the most likely anytime goalscorer for the home side.
Visitors West Ham have picked up back-to-back wins recently with victories gained over Crystal Palace and Sunderland although the critics will point out that these wins were registered against teams situated in the bottom half of the Premier League.
To get a better idea of where West Ham’s ‘real’ form sits, take a look at their away form and you’ll find that they’ve won just once in their first four matches on the road (which was at bottom club Sunderland), but had previously suffered defeats at Chelsea, Manchester City and most damaging of all, 15th placed West Brom.
The Hammers’ away record stands at 1-0-3 5/9 and although they beat Everton last time they visited Goodison Park, they were riding high on manager Slaven Bilic’s honeymoon period while Everton were struggling under the tenure of former boss Roberto Martinez.
