EXETER v SHREWSBURY – Pick: 1 AH+0.5 – 22 November 2014

Grecians to hold Shrews at St. James' Park

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 22nd November 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Mid-table Exeter City go into this afternoon’s clash with second placed Shrewsbury Town with a chance of the spoils having been unbeaten in their last five matches in League Two.

Recent wins over 3rd placed Wycombe Wanderers at home and 8th placed Morecambe away prove that Paul Tisdale’s side can handle the big clubs in the division, and in fact, Exeter have lost just once in their last eleven league matches.

So, despite their current mid-table standing, Exeter are in good form themselves and with an overall home record of  2-4-2  10/10 and an earlier win over 6th placed Bury as well as holding current league leaders Luton Town to a point, they stand a good chance of upsetting the visitors at their St. James’ Park ground today.

Visitors Shrewsbury Town currently sit in second place in League Two following a strong burst of form which has seen The Shrews win their last six league matches on the trot. Notable wins during this sequence were the 5-0 thrashing of Bury and the 2-1 win over Portsmouth (both at their Greenhous Stadium), although things haven’t been all their way away from home.

Shrewsbury’s away record stands at  2-2-4  6/9 and along with Plymouth Argyle, they have the worst away record of the teams currently occupying the top seven places in League Two. The Shrews have won their last two on the road at York City and Dagenham & Redbridge but they’re both dangerously close to the relegation zone, sitting 21st and 22nd respectively.

Prior to those two recent away wins, Shrewsbury had suffered four straight defeats while they’ve actually won just twice in their last ten on their travels.

I believe, therefore, that Exeter stand a very good chance of getting at least a point here despite Shrewsbury’s current league standing, and the price for the double chance on Exeter is too good to turn down – this might end up a draw perhaps 1-1.
