The Groupama Arena is the venue of my next pick as hosts and Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros prepare for the visit of Albanian side Partizani with the home side looking to make it back-to-back home wins.
Ferencvaros started their new Hungarian NB1 season off in style with a 3-1 home win over Szombathelyi and they’ll head into tonight’s second leg encounter in confident mood as they did what was expected in the opening leg of this second round Champions League qualifier.
Ferencvaros held Partizani Tirana to a 1-1 draw last week and they now appear to be in the box-seat to progress through to the next round with home advantage behind them. Incidentally, Ferencvaros are unbeaten in their last seven matches overall.
Visitors Partizani Tirana will be disappointed that they couldn’t take a lead over to Budapest for this second leg and it now seems unlikely that they’ll progress any further in the Champions League where they’re making their debut in this competition.
Partizani have won just once in their last six matches overall which was a 1-0 away win at Skenderbeu at the end of the Albanian Superliga season last term, and have since lost to Deuta Durres along with drawing with Slovan Bratislava and Ferencvaros.
However, a nine-game unbeaten run away from home in all competitions will give them a glimmer of hope here this evening, but I fancy Ferencvaros’ experience in European competition may prove to be too strong for Partizani in the end.
