Figueirense will be looking to break out of their five-match sequence without a win in Serie A when they play host to Chapecoense at their Estádio Orlando Scarpelli against tonight’s visitors who have a rather sketchy away record to date.
Figueirense have recently suffered defeats to Palmeiras and Gremio, although these teams are currently placed first and third respectively in the Brazilian top flight as well as both matches being away from home; there have also been three draws against Botafogo, Coritiba and Atletico Mineiro in 0-0, 0-0 and 1-1 stalemates respectively.
But the hosts still remain unbeaten on home turf as their record of 3-4-0 8/5 shows and it’s been their away form that has prevented them from pulling themselves out of the bottom four to date. All three points here though would see them jump out of the relegation zone.
Visitors Chapecoense currently sit in 13th place, four league positions and three points ahead of their hosts this afternoon but recent results suggest this could be a close encounter as they’ve lost three of their last five matches overall.
Defeats to Sport Recife 5-1, Santos 3-0 and Corinthians 2-0 won’t have done their confidence any good, and although they did beat Coritiba 3-2 at home as well, their record on the road has been very inconsistent.
Their away record stands at 2-2-3 10/16 and along with bottom club America Mineiro, they have shipped the most number of goals away from home in Serie A, as well as keeping just one clean sheet on their travels so far.
