A bottom half clash in the Brazilian Serie A sees hosts Figueirense taking on visitors Internacional with both teams looking for the three points to lift them into the top half of the division.
Figueirense secured a useful point away at Avai last weekend in a 1-1 draw which halted a run of three straight defeats away from home, but their early form at their Estádio Orlando Scarpelli ground has been impressive so far with two wins and a draw.
The Flioranopolis side have registered back-to-back home wins over Cruzeiro and Palmeiras both by 2-1 margins following on from their opening 0-0 draw with Vasco da Gama. Their overall home record stands at 2-1-0 4/2 with midfielder Carlos Alberto (2 goals) hitting early goalscoring form.
Visitors Internacional have a few injuries in their squad going into tonight’s encounter at Figueirense with D’Alessandro, Sasha, Winck and Paulao all out while Valdivia and Vitinho are both rated as doubtful.
However, manager Diego Aguirre welcomes back Lopez and Anderson who were both missing in last weekend’s 2-1 loss away at Corinthians. Internacional had previously put together a five-match unbeaten run which included wins over Avai and Coritiba, but bear in mind that both of these victories were achieved at home.
Meanwhile on the road, Internacional are still without a win having drawn at Vasco da Gama and Palmeiras which were either end of defeats at Atletico PR and Corinthians. Therefore, their early away record stands at 0-2-2 3/7 with only Fluminense and bottom club Joinville (8 goals apiece) conceding more on their travels.
A leaky defensive record away from home therefore gives the hosts a real chance tonight of claiming all three points, but I’ll take the quarter ball on offer for the hosts at a good price. Figueirense could take this perhaps 2-1.
