Flamengo put their recent back-to-back losses against Atletico Mineiro and Vasco da Gama behind them on Wednesday night when they registered a much-needed 1-0 win away at Joinville to keep their heads above water in the early relegation battle at the bottom of Serie A.
Following a disappointing start to the new campaign which saw Flamengo gain just one point from their opening five Serie A matches, they’ve now won three of their last five with previous wins over Chapecoense and Coritiba adding to the Joinville win.
There is still work to do though at home where they’ve recorded a below-par 1-1-2 5/7 return to date with just the one win over mid-table Chapecoense to their bow so far. But with the visitors’ poor away record going into today’s clash, Flamengo will fancy their chances of adding to their tally here this afternoon.
Onto Figueirense then, and as mentioned their away record stands at a very poor 0-1-4 3/9 from their first five away matches in the top flight with just a 1-1 draw at Avai being their highlight on their travels so far.
Figueirense did secure three points on Thursday night with a 3-1 win over Goias but this occurred on their home ground where they still remain unbeaten having won three and drawn two. Their away form has been woeful though with defeats being inflicted upon them by Sport Recife, Gremio, Atletico PR and Corinthians and indeed their general form on the road at this level has been pretty poor as they’ve registered just one win from their last 14 away matches.
This kind of form that Figueirense bring this afternoon should give Flamengo a lift here and they look a good bet to rack up back-to-back wins with perhaps a solid 2-0 win here and cover the -1 line too.
