FLEETWOOD v BARNSLEY – Pick: 1 AH0 – 17 September 2014

Cod Army to regroup against Tykes

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Wednesday 17th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Fleetwood Town are another team that will be glad to return to it’s home ground following back-to-back away defeats in League One when they entertain Barnsley at Highbury Stadium on Wednesday night.

Defeats away at Oldham Athletic and Crawley Town have momentarily stalled Gary Alexander’s Fleetwood outfit but they have a good chance of getting something out of tonight’s clash back on home turf, and indeed, three points tonight could see The Cod Army move up into third place as they are the only fixture being played tonight in the division.

Fleetwood’s home form has been okay, in this their inaugural season in England’s third tier, with a 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra and then two draws against Chesterfield and Leyton Orient, their overall home record stands at  1-2-0  3/2.

The danger men up front for Fleetwood Town are strikers Jamie Proctor (3 goals) and Stephen Dobbie along with former Manchester City youth player David Ball.

Barnsley were expected to mount a serious challenge for at least a play-off place this season in League One following relegation from the Championship at the end of last season, along with Bristol City, but unlike The Robins, Barnsley have struggled so far this term.

The Tykes have won just two league matches from their first six which sees them currently occupying a bottom half position in the division. Despite going four matches unbeaten prior to their defeat to MK Dons 3-5 a home on Saturday, the fact still remains that they’ve won just once on the road to date.

That win came in the shape of a 2-1 win at Crewe Alexandra, but The Railwaymen currently sit bottom of the division and I fancy Barnsley may well have their work cut out to replicate that result at Fleetwood tonight.

With Fleetwood back on home turf, I fancy them to get at least a draw but being a midweek match I recommend backing them with the round ball so if it ends a draw, we get our stake back – remember that Barnsley have drawn their last two away matches also. Fleetwood town may edge this perhaps 1-0 as an indicative scoreline.
