Top of Blue Square Premier Fleetwood Town take on mid-table but inconsistent Ebbsfleet United at home on Tuesday night with the Cod Army having a great chance to extends their lead at the top to five points if they take all three points.
Fleetwood are on a very impressive run at the moment which now extends to seventeen league matches without losing, and it’s hard to see this current rich vein of form being disrupted by the visitors tonight.
Fleetwood’s home record stands at 9-6-1 33/17, and have posted some impressive wins during this period including away wins at Luton Town and thrashing Southport 6-0, along with wins at home over Gateshead and Kidderminster earlier in the season along with Saturday’s win over Cambridge United.
They therefore deserve to be top based on current form and with a very potent strikeforce at their disposal, automatic promotion is surely in their hands now barring any major loss of form. Jamie Vardy and Andrew Mangan are their leading goalscorers and have Magno Vieira, Richard Brodie and assists from midfielder Jamie Milligan (8 assists) as the major back-up players who are also dangerous in their own right.
Their visitors tonight, Ebbsfleet United, have won a few matches recently with wins at lowly Hayes and Bath City together with a 3-0 home win over Tamworth but Tamworth have won only once in their last nine on the road! It’s all very well winning against this type of opposition, but it’ll be a different kettle of fish at Fleetwood (excuse the pun).
Ebbsfleet’s away record stands at 5-5-6 24/27, which looks a reasonable record but take out the Hayes and Bath results and they’ve lost the others at Lincoln, Grimsby and York City along with a draw at Barrow recently.
Their dangermen are strikers Callum Willock (16 goals, 2 assists) and Nathaniel Pinney (7 goals, 4 assists) along with forward Ricky Shakes (4 goals, 2 assists), and they are quite adept at scoring goals themselves.
All in all, I think it’ll be an attacking, open match with both sides having plenty of attacking personnel capable of scoring and creating goals; I’m therefore backing a few goals in this one in what should be an entertaining match.
