FLEETWOOD v MORECAMBE – Pick: 1 – 12 April 2014

Cod Army to see off Shrimpers at Highbury

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 12th April 2014 – Kickoff:  1507hrs

Two Lancashire clubs clash at Highbury Stadium on Saturday afternoon when hosts Fleetwood Town take on Morecambe and they have an automatic promotion spot in their sights.

Fleetwood have lost just once in their last nine matches as they’ve improved their form at just the right time with just five matches of the season to go and they are just three points behind third placed Chesterfield. Fleetwood have registered three wins from their last five with wins over Portsmouth 3-1, Bristol Rovers 3-1 and an away win at Oxford United 2-0 along with a point against League Two leaders Rochdale in a 0-0 draw.

Fleetwood’s overall home form stands at  10-4-6  37/27 and The Cod Army are unbeaten in their last four. Fleetwood’s major asset is that they can score goals particularly on home turf where they’ve racked up 37 so far (just 3 behind Rochdale), and with a fragile Morecambe coming to town, I fancy the hosts to score again this afternoon.

Morecambe have dropped steadily down the League Two table on the back of six matches without a win which includes four defeats against Accrington Stanley, Chesterfield, Bristol Rovers and Mansfield Town. Indeed, Morecambe have recorded just two league wins from their last eighteen matches which has placed The Shrimpers in 18th place and just five points above the bottom two.

Morecambe’s away form has also been disastrous in the last couple of months with no wins from their last ten away matches and now an overall away record that stands at a shaky  5-4-11  16/34. Morecambe have also been leaking plenty of goals on their travels, 34 in total which is just 2 goals shy of Portsmouth who have the worst defensive record in the division. In fact, Morecambe have kept just three clean sheets on their travels which doesn’t bode well for a visit to Fleetwood.

Fleetwood have the bit between their teeth and with home advantage behind them and Morecambe’s leaky defence, this leads to just one result I reckon – perhaps a 2-1 win for The Cod Army.
