FLEETWOOD v PRESTON – Pick: 2 – 29 March 2015

Preston to edge Cod Army in Lancs derby

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Sunday 29th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1415hrs

Sunday afternoon brings us an all-Lancashire clash between hosts Fleetwood Town and visitors Preston North End when the two teams clash at Highbury Stadium.

Fleetwood have endured a couple of recent frustrating results recently with a 2-0 defeat at home to Coventry City and a 2-2 draw away at Bradford City although they were 2-0 down at Valley Parade before scoring two late goals to rescue a point for the Cod Army.

Fleetwood’s home form has been in fits and starts this season as they recently put together a five-match unbeaten run on home turf prior to their defeat to the Sky Blues. But before that solid run, they’d also gone five matches without a win earlier, so they’re a tipsters nightmare quite frankly! Their overall home record currently stands at  7-8-4  21/20 and they’re in 10th place.

Visitors Preston North End are in second place and some ten points adrift of League One leaders Bristol City, but if they manage promotion up to the Championship, Preston won’t mind playing second fiddle to The Robins I’m sure!

Preston go into today’s clash on the back of a ten-match unbeaten run which includes eight wins and two draws, with notable wins during this sequence against Chesterfield, MK Dons and Peterborough United.

Away from home, Preston have won three of their last four with successes coming at Chesterfield, Oldham and MK Dons along with a point against an improving Barnsley outfit at Oakwell, while their overall record reads  10-3-5  27/14.

But the major factor in Preston’s favour is the return of their striker and leading goalscorer Joe Garner (20 goals) who has hit 9 goals in his last 10 matches in all competitions including 4 goals against Crewe Alexandra recently.

Fleetwood’s form has been sporadic but with the Garner factor for Preston, I’ll have my money on a Preston win here with the visitors running out 2-1 winners.
