FLEETWOOD v WALSALL – Pick: X – 22 November 2014

Saddlers could hold Cod Army for a point

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 22nd November 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Fleetwood Town have registered recent back-to-back League One wins over Gillingham and Yeovil Town which has just about maintained the Cod Army’s top half position in League One.

They now return to their Highbury Stadium where they still remain unbeaten at home with an overall record of  4-4-0  11/6  with only League One leaders Bristol City also having that same distinction.

Although Fleetwood Town recently suffered back-to-back defeats also, these were both away from home at 6th placed MK Dons and 3rd placed Preston North End, so it’s perhaps no disgrace that they went down to teams of that calibre.

Visitors Walsall go into today’s clash with Fleetwood Town on the back of wins over Chesterfield and Notts County along with taking a point off Peterborough United who again, struggled to make any kind of impression away at bottom half opposition.

Walsall are a tricky side to play against as they tend to pull out unexpected results against the ‘better teams’ and in fact seem to take great delight in putting a spanner in the works of many a side who were seemingly on a roll.

Walsall’s away record though isn’t great as it stands at  1-3-4  5/11 with the win at Notts County ending a run of seven matches without a win on their travels. Saddlers manager Dean Smith will also be looking for a reaction following his side’s loss to League Two outfit Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup in midweek.

Fleetwood have drawn four of their eight home matches to date while Walsall are never an easy team to put away and will want to continue their recent improvement in form in the league. I’m going to back the draw here today as I reckon Walsall can keep pace with Fleetwood, perhaps 1-1.
