It’s a quick return to Blighty for a look at a few National League matches now as Forest Green Rovers maintained their position at the top of the division with a convincing win during the week with a 3-0 win away at Aldershot Town.
Forest Green ended a poor run of five matches without a win with that win at the Recreation Ground and they now sit top of the National League with a three point cushion ahead of second placed Cheltenham Town with a home match against struggling Guiseley in the offing.
By the way, Forest Green’s home record stands at a strong 5-1-1 14/6 despite losing last time out on home turf to Gateshead 1-0 but they’ve won two of their three encounters against bottom half opposition so far at their New Lawn ground with wins over Welling United and Southport.
Onto visitors Guiseley and they suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Macclesfield Town at their Nethermoor Park ground which made it two losses on the trot for the West Yorkshire outfit. Guiseley have managed just one win from their last five matches overall in the National League which was a 1-0 win away at Braintree Town.
That win though has been their only victory on their travels to date as they’ve also been held to draws against Barrow, Chester, Torquay United and Dover Athletic. Their away record reads 1-4-1 4/4 overall but away at the top third teams sees Guiseley a more modest 1-1-1 1/2.
Guiseley have shown they are no pushovers in this division so far, but they come up against the league leaders who have recently tasted victory again and will be pushing for more today.
To wrap up, I fancy Forest Green to take the points here and cover the -1 line too in perhaps a 3-1 win for the Gloucestershire outfit.
