FRANCE v REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Football – Europe – Euro 2016 Betting Tips

Predictably, France secured top spot in Group A as they registered wins over Romania and Albania 2-1 and 2-0 respectively, along with a point against Switzerland in a 0-0 draw in what was in truth one of the weaker groups of the group stage.

It’s now onto the last 16 and France now play Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland side which beat Italy in their final group match. France themselves have been a little unconvincing thus far in this Euro 2016 as they were helped by two last-minute goals to earn them their group victories, while the draw against Switzerland was a strictly tepid affair.

As France progress, the weight of national expectation grows and we’ve seen in the past how France do not always respond well to this pressure. Strikers Giroud and Griezmann haven’t really hit their straps yet as France’s finishing in front of goal has been wasteful.

Republic of Ireland claimed their spot in the round of 16 thanks to a huge 1-0 win over Italy in their final group game, and although they lost 3-0 to Belgium, the earlier 1-1 draw with Sweden in their opening match of the tournament was enough to see them through.

However, they now face a tough task in opponents France and their vocal home support, but nevertheless, the Irish will be confident of keeping the hosts quiet for as long as possible and this transfer the pressure back onto the hosts to make the running.

Shane Long will work tirelessly up front and keep the French defence honest, and the longer it stays 0-0 the better it will be for Republic of Ireland.

I think this could be a low-scoring game.
