GATESHEAD v ALFRETON – Pick: Gateshead HT/FT – 07 October 2014

Heed firepower the key against Alfreton

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Tuesday 7th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Gateshead registered a very solid 3-1 home win over Braintree Town on Saturday to maintain their unbeaten record and their position within the play-off pack. They’re now unbeaten in their last seven matches although they have been involved in a spate of draws recently.

Despite the recent stalemates though, Gateshead have managed wins over AFC Telford, Dartford and of course Braintree Town to maintain their position of fifth, along with an overall home record of   5-1-1  15/11 where they’ve won four of their last five following a bolt from the blue 1-6 loss to Grimsby Town which still makes me scratch my head as to how that happened.

But The Heed are very capable of scoring goals particularly at the Gateshead International Stadium and they’ve scored in their last fourteen home matches consecutively, with forwards Shaw (4 goals) and Wright (5 goals) being the most likely anytime goalscorers for the hosts.

Alfreton Town succumbed to their third Conference defeat on the trot on Saturday when they went down 0-2 away at Aldershot Town at the Recreation Ground on the back of previous losses against Dover Athletic and Halifax Town.

Failure to score in their last three matches have ended in defeat and has resulted in the Derbyshire outfit remaining in the bottom four where they actually occupy a second from bottom position and four points adrift of Altrincham and the safety spot of 20th.

It’s still early days of course, but Alfreton’s away record of  1-0-6  3/17 really needs to improve if they’re to pull away from the bottom end of the division. Only Altrincham (18 goals) have conceded more than Alfreton on their travels, and in turn, only Nuneaton Town (1 goal) have scored fewer than them on the road so far.

Having failed to score on five occasions so far away from home, Alfreton Town will be up against it tonight against a well-organised Gateshead outfit who are pushing for another play-off place later on in the season. Gateshead’s firepower should put this one to bed, and i’ll back the hosts to win both halves. Perhaps a 2-0 win for The Heed.
