Gent’s recent results in the Belgian Jupiler League have formed a very definitive pattern in the past few matches as they’ve won at home but lost away from home – and this evening may be no exception as they return to their GHELAMCO-arena to take on Standard Liege.
Gent are now the only side in the Belgian top flight to possess a 100% record on home turf as they’ve racked up wins against Genk, Westerlo, Lokeren, Sint-Truiden and most impressive of all, a 3-0 win over current league leaders Zulte-Waregem.
The hosts possess a record of 5-0-0 13/3 including three clean sheets and they’ve actually suffered only once defeat from their last 18 home matches which is some record. Forwards Perbet, Simon and Coulibaly have been amongst the goals early on this season.
Visitors Standard Liege registered a resounding 5-0 win at home against bottom club Waasland-Beveren on the weekend but they’ll face much tougher opposition on Thursday night when they take on Gent on the road here.
Standard Liege have picked up some ‘cheap’ wins in the past few weeks as they’ve also beaten Eupen at home and recorded an away win at Lokeren, but they’ve picked up just the one win on their travels so far this season in the Belgian top flight.
However, points on the road at Westerlo, Club Brugge and Kortrijk have prevented them from experiencing defeat, while their away record reads a tentative 1-3-1 8/8.
I feel the hosts have enough for at least a point but I’ll give the quarter-ball in the hope for a home win here.
