Getafe head into Sunday afternoon’s clash with Atletico Madrid on the back of a three-match losing streak when they take on second placed Atletico Madrid who are breathing down Barcelona’s necks at the top of La Liga.
Defeats to Granada, Athletic Bilbao and Malaga have undone Getafe’s previous good work of registering three earlier wins on the trot over Sporting Gijon, Real Betis and Espanyol which has prevented Getafe from making an impact upon the top half of the division.
Nevertheless, Getafe still hold a pretty good record at their Coliseum Alfonso Pérez ground with an overall record of 6-3-3 17/8 and just one defeat from their last seven on home turf, and they’ve failed to score on just three occasions so far in front of their home crowd.
Visitors Atletico Madrid will have all three points in their sights in this Sunday afternoon clash at Getafe as they look to run down La Liga leaders Barcelona at the top of the division. And with five wins from their last seven matches overall, Atletico Madrid look in good shape to get something out of Getafe today.
Atletico’s away record stands at 8-1-3 19/5 but defeats at Malaga and Barcelona show that they’re also vulnerable on the road along with having posted recent wins on their travels away at Rayo Vallecano, Celta Vigo and Las Palmas with two of these wins coming against teams situated in the bottom third of La Liga.
Getafe pose a very different threat though and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw goals from both teams here today.
