The Segunda Division semi-final play-off second leg is due on Saturday night and hosts Getafe will no doubt be fairly confident of progressing through to the play-off final following a vital 2-2 draw away at Huesca in the first leg.
By avoiding defeat at Estadio El Alcoraz, they now appear to be in the box seat ahead of this second leg with home advantage behind them at their Coliseum Alfonso Pérez where they ended up the regular season with an impressive record of 13-7-1 34/13.
Getafe put together an excellent 17-match unbeaten run on home turf following an early 2-0 defeat to Girona, and with 10 clean sheets to their name so far this season, you’d have to think the home side have a great chance of making it through to the final from here.
Visitors Huesca missed out on their chance to gain an advantage prior to their trip to Getafe following the recent 2-2 draw, but they’ll no doubt be relieved that they at least avoided defeat as they found themselves 2-0 down with just 15 minutes remaining.
Huesca staged a great comeback, but they’re likely to be up against it again this evening when they look to overcome a very solid Getafe unit, particularly in their own back-yard. But the visitors were a hard nut to crack on their travels with a reasonable looking away record of 5-10-6 19/23.
With the score still level ahead of this second leg though, we’re now looking for one of these teams to grab this match by the scruff of the neck, and my money’s on the hosts, Getafe, to do just that.
