Getafe trail Tenerife by a one-goal margin following their play-off final first leg defeat at Tenerife, but they now possess home advantage in this second leg finale at their Coliseum Alfonso Pérez as they look to overhaul the deficit and take the tie, in order to claim La Liga football next season.
Getafe have lost just three matches in their last 15 overall in the Spanish second tier, and it’s interesting to note that all three defeats were inflicted upon them on their travels with losses at Sevilla B, Real Valladolid and to Tenerife in the first leg of this play-off.
However, Getafe’s home form is very strong indeed as they’re unbeaten in their last 18 matches on home turf, which includes having won their last four on the trot and all to nil with wins over Cordoba 2-0, Elche 2-0, Almeria 4-0 and Huesca 3-0 – the latter being in the play-off semi-final.
Visitors Tenerife seemingly have one foot in next season’s La Liga as they take a valuable one goal advantage into this second leg at Getafe with the ultimate prize of Spanish top flight football almost within their grasp.
But it is just a single goal advantage, and with just four away wins from their last 14 played on their travels, the job is far from done for the visitors who shared the points earlier in the season the last time they made the trip to Getafe in a 2-2 draw back in March.
Tenerife finished the regular season with an overall away record of 6-9-6 25/23, and so I think they’re definitely here for the taking if Getafe can get their game going.
