Football – International – Africa Cup of Nations Betting Tips

Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on Tuesday evening with highly fancied Ghana starting their campaign against Uganda as Ghana look to break their current average run of form.

Ghana have been without a win from their last five matches overall which includes defeats away at Russia 1-0 and Egypt away from home 2-0 along with draws against Rwanda, tonight’s opponents Uganda and South Africa, while it’s interesting to note that very few goals have been scored in their last 14 matches overall.

Only two matches from the last 14 have resulted in over 2.5 goals where Ghana are concerned, while against tonight’s opponents Uganda, five of the last six meetings between the two teams have been under 2.5 goals in total.

Uganda’s latest three friendly internationals resulted in a 3-1 win away at Slovakia, but this victory was sandwiched between defeats to Tunisia 2-0 and Ivory Coast 3-0 (which were both away from home), but prior to the losses, the general theme for Uganda was also low-scoring encounters.

Just three of Uganda’s last 20 matches went over the 2.5 goal mark, and I’m expecting them to tighten up for this year’s tournament, as they’ll especially be keen to avoid defeat in this opening Group D encounter.

This will be Uganda’s first appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations, but I’m expecting them to keep pace with Ghana here in what could be a rather cagey affair in Port-Gentil with neither side wanting to taste defeat early on, which could hand the initiative over to Mali and Egypt.
