GILLINGHAM v CHESTERFIELD – Pick: 1 AH+0.5 – 20 December 2014

Gills to avoid defeat against Spireites

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 20th December 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Gillingham secured a valuable three points last Saturday when they beat Doncaster Rovers 2-1 at the Keepmoat Stadium which kept The Gills’ heads above water.

Gillingham have now gone unbeaten in their last four matches which includes wins against Leyton Orient and Doncaster Rovers as well as draws with Bradford City and Port Vale. They are now 18th place in League One and despite a disappointing campaign so far, The Gills do actually possess the best home record in the bottom half of the division with overall stats of  4-4-2  14/12.

Gillingham have lost just once at home against the teams in the bottom half of the league which was a 3-0 defeat to Scunthorpe United but wins over Yeovil Town, Crewe Alexandra, Peterborough United and Leyton Orient should prove that they have enough to get at least a point here today.

Visitors Chesterfield have registered just one league win in their last ten matches which was a 2-1 home win over Barnsley towards the end of November. But this poor run of form has seen The Spireites drop out of the play-off reckoning and they are now sitting in 13th place as a result.

In their last five matches, Chesterfield have been held to draws with Yeovil Town, Crewe Alexandra and Crawley Town along with a win over Barnsley but they lost 1-0 last Saturday at home to Bradford City.

Chesterfield’s away record currently stands at  2-4-4  13/15 and they’re without a win on their travels in their last seven matches (consisting of three draws and four defeats).

Gillingham’s record at Priestfield Stadium is a good one and I’ll therefore back them to avoid defeat here against Chesterfield who have struggled on the road of late. The Gills could win perhaps 1-0 but back them with the well priced handicap on offer.
