Gills to steal the show again

League One/Two Tips

GILLINGHAM v OLDHAM ATHLETIC

Football – England – League One Betting Tips

On Tuesday night Gillingham showed why they are early promotion contenders from League One when they thrashed Fleetwood Town 5-1 at Priestfield Stadium despite going a goal down to their visitors.

Gillingham have gone from strength to strength under manager Justin Edinburgh who had previously cut his teeth in the Conference with former club Newport County, and The Gills still possess a 100% home record on home turf with an impressive record of  5-0-0  14/2 having despatched of Sheffield United, Wigan Athletic, Doncaster Rovers, Blackpool and Fleetwood Town.

In fact, Gillingham have won their last eight home matches on the trot scoring 19 goals for and conceding just 3 goals in reply, a real testament to the hard work that Edinburgh has done with not only his defensive unit but also his strike-force. Midfielder Bradley Dack is their leading goalscorer with 5 goals to date.

Oldham Athletic have drawn their last three League One matches under new boss David Dunn who must be waiting in the wings for Gary Bowyer’s job at Blackburn Rovers just quietly. But first of all, Dunn must impress with The Latics as he looks to steer them away from the relegation pack in League One.

Recent stalemates against Doncaster Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Port Vale ended a run of back-to-back defeats to Bradford City and Peterborough United, the latter resulting in the sacking of former manager Darren Kelly who had been a surprise appointment to replace Dean Holden.

Oldham’s away record stands at  0-5-0  4/4 as they’ve drawn all five of their matches on their travels so far, but that makes it nine without a win on the road now for The Latics in League One. However, a point at Priestfield Stadium would be considered a great result for the Lancashire outfit.

Gillingham should have enough firepower to take care of their visitors today, but as Oldham may well set their stall out to take a point here, I’ll give the quarter-ball on the hosts who might shade this perhaps 2-1.
