Staying with the Spanish Segunda Division, my next pick involves second placed Girona taking on bottom half outfit Alcorcon at their Estadi Municipal de Montilivi as the hosts look to extend or at least maintain their seven point cushion over promotion-chasing Getafe.
But much like Getafe, Girona succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at Levante last weekend, but it should be noted that Levante possess a strong 12 point lead at the top of the Spanish second tier, and look extremely likely now to get promoted to La Liga.
Back to Girona, and they hold a good home record of 12-4-3 39/20 and although they suffered a bit of a hiccup recently with three straight defeats to Cadiz, Rayo Vallecano and UCAM Murcia, they did bounce back with a 3-1 win over Huesca last time out on home turf.
Visitors Alcorcon have recently registered back-to-back wins over Real Oviedo and Rayo Vallecano as they make their way to Girona for Saturday’s difficult clash against the second placed team. Alcorcon sit precariously just above the bottom four in the Spanish Segunda Division with just one point between themselves and the relegation zone.
They also hold a very fragile looking away record of 2-5-12 7/26 with the obvious problem being their poor goalscoring record on their travels. Indeed, they have the worst scoring record away from home in the division, which includes failing to score on no fewer than 12 occasions from their 19 away matches to date.
This should therefore be a fairly straightforward home win here for the hosts who will be wanting to hold onto their automatic promotion spot.
