After some pretty ordinary results in recent weeks, tonight’s hosts IFK Goteborg really need to step up when they play host to struggling Hammarby with a valuable three points up for grabs for both teams.
Three points for Goteborg could see them jump into fourth or fifth place and keep in touch with the early Europa League places, and they have made a pretty good start at their Nya Gamla Ullevi ground with a record of 2-2-1 5/6.
Goteborg have lost at home just once in their last 18 Allsvenskan matches which is an impressive record for any top flight division, and forward Hysen (5 goals) has been amongst the early goals scored for the home side.
Visitors Hammarby have struggled early on in this new Swedish Allsvenskan campaign as they sit in third from bottom position following a run of six league matches without a win. Recent defeats to Norrkoping, Orebro (both away from home) and Malmo at home have prevented them from moving up the league table.
With just one away win from their last six, and an early record of 1-1-3 8/12 under their belts so far on their travels this season, it looks as though Hammarby may well struggle to keep pace with Goteborg tonight.
In addition, Hammarby were on the end of a 1-0 defeat last time at the Nya Gamla Ullevi and I can see a similar scoreline occurring this evening, with hosts Goteborg sealing another home win here.
