Grasshoppers will be keen to put this season’s Swiss Super League campaign behind them as quickly as possible following a very disappointing time of it this term as they sit third from bottom in the Swiss top flight.
Grasshoppers finished in fourth place at the end of last season which earned them a place in the Europa League, but they’ve fallen away in dramatic fashion this season as they find themselves 12 points adrift of fourth placed Sion this time around.
Grasshoppers hold a home record of 7-4-6 27/21 and have recently suffered back-to-back defeats to Thun and St Gallen (both away from home), so they’ll be keen to return to their Stadion Letzigrund, although even here, they’ve collected just two league wins from their last 12 matches!
Visitors Basel secured the Super League title this season with relative ease as they currently sit top of the division with a 15 point margin ahead of second placed Young Boys, and they’ll no doubt be looking to sign off this season in style as they make their way to Zurich this afternoon.
Basel’s 16-match unbeaten run came to an end away at the aforementioned Young Boys last weekend, but they should find things a little easier today when they face an out-of-sorts Grasshoppers side, despite being on the road.
The reason for this is a very solid looking away record of 12-3-2 39/17 where they have scored the most goals on the road in the division, and the likes of strikers Doumbia (16 goals) and Janko (12 goals) should cause the Grasshoppers’ defence plenty of problems today.
