Gremio narrowly lost out in a high-scoring game away at Palmeiras 4-3 but they return to their home ground Arena do Grêmio for this afternoon’s clash against Ponte Preta having won their opening two matches on home turf so far this season.
Gremio have in fact won three of their first five Serie A matches of the new season which includes a 3-0 win away at Atletico Mineiro, and they’ll be confident of claiming another three points on home turf this afternoon with an early record of 2-0-0 3/0 under their belts, courtesy of wins over Flamengo and Coritiba respectively.
Gremio’s home record has been strong over a period of time now as they’ve suffered just two defeats in their last 22 matches, and they’ve won their last five on the trot in front of their home fans.
Visitors Ponte Preta currently sit mid-table after the first five matches of the new Brazilian domestic season which is a fair reflection of their results so far which have been mixed to date; two wins (against Palmeiras and Atletico Mineiro), a draw (0-0 away at Figueirense) and two defeats (to Corinthians and Flamengo) has been their story so far.
Their win at Atletico Mineiro ended a run of six matches on the road without a win, but it’ll be interesting to see how they fare this afternoon at in-form Gremio given their lacklustre performances on their travels in recent times.
