It’s pretty much been a season of two halves for Saturday afternoon’s hosts Hamburg as they look to avoid the drop from the German Bundesliga when they take on bottom club Darmstadt at their Volksparkstadion.

Visitors Darmstadt need a miracle now to avoid relegation down to Bundesliga 2 as they sit rock bottom of the German top flight, and some 14 points adrift of safety with just five league matches remaining of the season.
To stand any chance of survival, Darmstadt need to win all five of their remaining matches, but even if they achieve this, there’s no guarantees that they’ll avoid the drop! Their plight looks absolutely desperate when you take a look at their away record of 0-0-14 6/34 and it’s hard to remember another team being quite this bad in the Bundesliga in recent years.
To complete their misery, Darmstadt have failed to score in 10 of their 14 away matches to date and home advantage couldn’t stop them losing 2-0 to today’s opponents Hamburg earlier in the season in December.
This surely must be a home win for Hamburg…
