HEREFORD v AFC TELFORD – Pick: 1 – 08 January 2013

Hereford to account for Telford at Edgar Street

National League Tips

Football – England – Blue Square Premier

Tuesday 8th January 2013 – Kickoff:  1945hrs

It’s off to Edgar Street in the Blue Square Premier as I look at the encounter between hosts Hereford United and visitors AFC Telford on Tuesday night and the away side are in desperate need of points.

It’s been a bit of a mixed bag of results for Hereford United lately with wins over Luton Town, Wrexham, Barrow and Kidderminster along with a valuable point earned at Grimsby Town at the weekend which means that The Bulls have taken points off four of the top six clubs in recent weeks.

However, losses against Lincoln City and the return fixture of Kidderminster has blotted their copybook somewhat, but the fact still remains that they’ve claimed a few big scalps in recent weeks. Looking at Hereford’s home form and there is plenty of room for improvement with three defeats in their last five home matches which places their home record at  5-1-4  15/13 but they do have a great opportunity to improve on the wins tally with the visit of poor AFC Telford.

Onto Telford then, and the midlanders have been sucked into a relegation dog-fight standing just one place above Braintree Town courtesy of a better goal difference, but their form suggests that this goal difference could be eroded away pretty quickly given their recent results.

Eleven league matches without a win including six straight defeats has severely impacted Telford’s desire to pull away from the bottom of the non-league top flight and a very difficult four months is now in store for players and fans alike.

Away from home they have gone five matches without a win but they have scored draws at Alfreton Town, Tamworth and Stockport County which gives them some hope of taking points off the teams around them in the lower half of the division. An away record of  3-6-3  18/17 suggests that a draw may be their best chance at Hereford on Tuesday night but I think they face a very tough night indeed.

Hereford have performed well against the top teams in the division lately and with home advantage tonight against a Telford side who are struggling for confidence and form, I’m backing Hereford to take the points in this one; could be a 2-1 win for The Bulls.
